San José, Costa Rica — April 3, 2025. The European International Human Rights Network (RIDHE) expresses its deep satisfaction with the vote of the UN Human Rights Council in favor of renewing the mandates of the Group of Experts on Human Rights on Nicaragua (GHREN) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to investigate and monitor serious human rights violations and crimes against humanity in the country.
In this context, RIDHE highlights and recognizes the work of GHREN in identifying dozens of those responsible for crimes against humanity, as part of the documentation of the political repression carried out by the State of Nicaragua since April 2018. The resolution adopted by the Human Rights Council, submitted by nine Latin American countries and approved with 29 votes in favor, reflects international concern about the continuing deterioration of the political and social situation in the country, extending the mandate of the Group of Experts for two additional years.
