The RIDHE reviews the Mercosur-European Union Agreement from a Human Rights perspective

The European International Human Rights Network (RIDHE), together with the social organizations that are part of the network, released an analysis of the implications for the protection of rights in the framework of the ratification of the Association Agreement between the European Union (EU) and Mercosur. ”

It aggravates existing structural problems, especially in the context of South America,” says the statement ahead of the 65th summit of the most important economic bloc in the South American region, which will take place on December 5 and 6.

The RIDHE considered the negative effects of the agreement, with particular emphasis on the situation of social and environmental rights, which “raise significant issues that States in both regions must urgently address before ratification”.
